20,000 Ivanka Trump scarves recalled over "burn risk"

Published
Jul 18, 2017

Global Brands Group Accessories, the maker of Ivanka Trump brand scarves, has issued a recall of 20,000 scarves made in China that were found to violate federal flammability standards.

Beach Wave scarf by Ivanka Trump - Consumer Product Safety Commission

The Consumer Product Safety Commission found the scarves made of 100% rayon posed a "burn risk". Two styles of scarves are covered, the Beach Wave and the Brushstroke Oblong scarves.

The scarves affected were sold between October 2014 and January 2016. They were distributed across multiple channels to retail partners including Lord & Taylor, Amazon, Century 21 and TJMaxx.

Consumers are being instructed to return the scarves for full refund of the original purchase price which ranged from $12 to $68. Customers who purchased through online retailers will be contacted by the retailer with instructions of how to make the return.

This is the latest in a series of troubles for the Ivanka Trump brand. Last month Ivanka herself was ordered to be deposed in the lawsuit where her company is being sued for copying an Aquazzura shoe. Her brand also has faced several inquiries regarding the working conditions of the factories it uses.

According to Harvard professor Robert Lawrence, none of the 800 products in the Ivanka Trump line are made exclusively in the US. Additionally over 350 are imported from China.

As her father's administration pushes American manufacturing, the Ivanka Trump brand will be faced with a decision of whether to continue manufacturing overseas to turn a profit or bringing production back home for less scandal.

As of now, no injuries or burns from the scarves have been reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission which has been monitoring the product since April.
