Adidas comes out on top in ranking of world’s most Instagrammed sneakers

Published
Jul 23, 2018

As the sneaker industry continues its rapid growth and Instagram consolidates its status as the platform of choice for influencers and celebrities looking to flaunt their gear, Adidas dominated a recent worldwide ranking of the most popular sneakers on the photo sharing app.

One of the latest iterations of the Adidas NMD, which ranked as the world's most Instagrammed sneaker - Instagram: @adidasoriginals

The ranking, put together by European parcel forwarding service Forward2Me, analysed the Instagram mentions of some of the most popular sneakers in recent years to find out which had the biggest presence on the platform and discovered that six of the top ten were Adidas.

The remaining top ten places went to sneakers made by Vans, Nike and Nike-owned Converse.

In terms of the specific sneakers on the list, the Adidas NMD snatched the top spot, mentioned in 5.7 million posts, while the brand’s Yeezy 350 came in second (4.2 million posts), followed by the Vans Old Skool (3.6 million posts).

While the top three sneakers are all relatively new models, the classic Adidas Superstar, first launched in 1969, slipped into fourth place with 3.4 million posts, and perennial favorite the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star completed the run of the five most popular models, garnering 2.2 million mentions.

Adidas may have dominated the upper end of the rankings, but Forward2Me also found that 53% of the world’s most Instagrammed sneakers were Nike models, proving that the rivalry between the two brands is as strong as ever.

With Transparency Market Research predicting that the world sneaker market will be worth $220.2 billion by 2020 and competition hotting up between long-time sparring partners and market leaders Adidas and Nike, the battle for exposure on social media is rapidly becoming a showdown with some very high stakes indeed.

The full “The World’s Most Instagrammable Sneakers” ranking is available to consult on the Forward2Me website.
