Audrey Hepburn's clothes will go up for auction

Published
Jun 12, 2017

Christie’s will be auctioning off items from the late actress’ personal collection, including many pieces from her wardrobe. Her extensive clothing collection included pieces from designers such as Burberry and Hubert de Givenchy.

The collection is currently under ownership of the Hepburn family, and will go on auction at Christie’s in London on September 24. As Audrey Hepburn was both a beloved Hollywood star and a fashion icon, items from her wardrobe could fetch up to $100,000 apiece.

Among those items are a blue satin gown by Hubert de Givenchy and a Burberry trench coat, the latter of which is valued at up to $100,000. Givenchy was a favorite designer of the actress and also created many of the iconic pieces she wore in her films. A retrospective of their partnership, entitled “To Audrey with Love” was on display at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague until March.

The French couturier created the black gown Hepburn wore as Holly Golightly in perhaps her most famous movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Christie’s auctioned off that gown in 2006 for $577,868, well above its estimated price of $88,711.

Along with Hepburn’s clothing, the auction will also include items such as an annotated script of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and some of her personal photographs. Items from the collection will go on public display on September 23, prior to the auction.
