Benetton celebrates colour with Milan art-meets-fashion exibitition

Benetton is presenting an exhibition called I See Colors Everywhere at Milan’s Triennale Design Museum this week. Visitors will be “totally immersed in a story of colour,” as told by garments from the new spring/summer collection and works by Fabrica, Benetton’s art and communications research centre.

The company said it’s intimately linked with colour as a concept whether it’s via the brand’s colourful knitwear, its controversial marketing campaigns that promoted multiracialism, or its promotion of the arts in general.

The exhibition celebrates this heritage by “presenting a broad spectrum of editorial and creative productions by Fabrica in a space where design, art and society encounter and enter into dialogue with each other.”

The exhibit has been put together by Fabrica designers led by Sam Baron, with each of its eight sections dedicated to a colour and explored through video, posters, music, photos, illustrations, objects, performances and interactive installations. These all come from over 20 years of Fabrica’s activities.

So what visitors get includes pop art by American illustrator Andy Rementer, an installation by Giorgia Zanellato and Daniele Bortotto, a project on albinos by South African photographer Pieter Hugo and graphic works by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon and Ukrainian art director Anna Kulachek.

There are over 50 works wit models also showing pieces from the the United Colors of Benetton SS18 collection “in a manner inspired more by artistic performance than traditional fashion shows.”   There’s also a magazine-catalogue with an editorial by Myriam Ben Salah, writer and curator of cultural programming at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
