The second edition of the Loewe Craft Prize has a winner. Among the 30 finalists, the prize’s jury picked artist British Jennifer Lee, who submitted the work 'Pale, Shadowed Speckled Traces, Fading Ellipse, Bronze Specks, Tilted Shelf'.

A "memorable classicism and transcendence in time" are the features of Lee’s work which led the jury, made up of architects, art critics, journalists, designers, and the winner of the award’s previous edition, Ernst Gamperl, to pick her as the winner, according to a Loewe press release.

The Loewe Craft Prize also awarded special mentions to two other finalists. One was French textile artist Simone Pheulpin, for her 'Croissance XL’ work; the other was Japanese ceramist Takuro Kuwata, for his 'Tea Bowl’ piece.

The jury's decision was announced on Thursday at a gala held in London, hosted by British actress Helen Mirren. The winner received a silver trophy and a cash prize of €50,000.

In addition, both the winning artwork and those by the other finalists will be exhibited from 4th May to June 17th at the Loewe Craft Prize showcase in the London Design Museum. The prize is part of the London Craft Week, a cultural activity programme featuring disciplines such as ceramic-making, jewellery and wood, glass and paper art.

The annual Loewe prize was first introduced in 2016 with the aim of recognising excellence and innovation by contemporary craft artists, and is the brainchild of Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of Loewe.
