Courrèges announces a new era and it’s a little sad

Courrèges made its comeback on the Paris catwalk on Wednesday and left few convinced. The brand, which was just bought by Kering through the holding company Artemis, swept away its past and made way for its new artistic director, German designer Yolanda Zobel, and her new motto to focus on the present. Futurism with its plastics and vinyl is over. Make way for eco-friendly fashion!

To present her first men's and women's collection, the designer invited the public to the house’s historical store on rue François-1er in Paris, where the models turned the store, as well as its outdoor space, into a catwalk for all to watch.

Little dresses, mini-jackets, skirts, t-shirts, bermudas, shorts and trench coats made up a pastel-hued collection. The women were accessorized with hoods or small square hats, high, slouchy boots and tights stamped with the brand’s logo.

Loose and transparent tops were accentuated with floral prints, while a strappy silver sequined tunic was adorned with a spiral and an eye print. Meanwhile, loose nylon pants buttoned at the sides resembling jogging pants completed the collection.

To find the fresh and lively spirit of Courrèges, it’s better to turn to its neighbouring pop-up store, inaugurated on Tuesday, where the brand has declared "The End of Plastic". They’re selling the last of its vinyl pieces, including its famous short jackets and mini-skirts that made Courrèges the success it is today. The store is still full.
