Design duo Spijkers en Spijkers to open first store in Arnhem

Dutch fashion design duo Spijkers en Spijkers will open a brand store in the city of Arnhem. It will be the first permanent space for the duo, following a pop-up store last year.

The 346 m2 store will be located at Koningsstraat 18 in a building that formerly housed electronics retailer Kijkshop. The latter filed for bankruptcy in January of this year.

The Spijkers en Spijkers store will carry the label’s womenswear-, footwear-, accessories- and home collections. In addition, the shop will also offer a small menswear range.

Arnhem’s Koningsstraat is located in the city center and is home to retailers such as Sissy Boy and Haas Jewelry House. Retailers in the surrounding area include mainly larger chains such as Hema, Hunkemöller, H&M, Zara, Bershka, Primark and CoolCat.

In January, local newspaper De Gelderlander reported that the designer duo would open a store at Velperplein. However, according to the newspaper Spijkers en Spijkers and the landlord did not reach an agreement on the Velperplein store location.

Following the change of the store location, the duo told the newspaper in an article published yesterday: “The [Velperplein] location was perfect, a really nice place, with a lot of shop windows too. That is scarce here in Arnhem. But the Kijkshop building also has a lot to offer in that respect. We look forward to starting organizing, whenever the handymen are finished.”

Spijkers en Spijkers consists of twin sister duo Riet en Truus Spijkers. The duo is known for its colorful designs, which are shown during fashion weeks in Paris, London and Milan. The designers, which are graduates of Arnhem’s ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, will officially open their store during Fashion + Design Festival Arnhem. The festival takes place 1 June - 8 July.
