Dior donates funds from feminist t-shirt to Rihanna's charity

Published

Dior is partnering with songstress Rihanna for a charitable collaboration. Proceeds from sales of Dior’s “We Should All Be Feminists” t-shirt will support Rihanna’s Clara Lionel charity, a non-profit fighting to bring basic education and health to impoverished communities. The white-and-black shirt bears a quote from novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TEDx Talk.

The t-shirt will retail for $710, and will hit shelves at Dior stores, Dior pop-up locations, and smaller luxury retailers such as Colette and Maxfield in early March. Dior will donate proceeds to the Clara Lionel charity until May 15th.

Rihanna launched the Clara Lionel foundation in 2012 in an effort to improve the quality of life in impoverished communities around the world. The singer recently received the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relation's 2017 Humanitarian of the Year award for her efforts.

Dior is the latest in a slew of brands to look to graphic t-shirts to support women's rights. Reformation launched an series of t-shirts benefiting Planned Parenthood, using slogans like “My Meow My Choice” and “I’m Just Getting Started”.

Prabal Gurung released several pro-equality t-shirts after his most recent runway presentation, bearing statements like “Femininity with a Bite”, and “Break Down Walls”. Portions of Gurung's profits will benefit Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Shikshya Foundation Nepal.
