Lush plans one of biggest UK stores, will fill empty Liverpool site

Lush is reported to be opening one of its biggest UK stores in Liverpool and will also solve the problem of a major site that has been empty since Arcadia-owned womenswear chain Dorthy Perkins and menswear chain Burton moved out.

The former Dorthy Perkins store is on Church Street in Liverpool and would see the natural and ethical beauty products retailer moving from its current Whitechapel location.

Renovation work has already started on the site, according to local press reports, although neither the company not property agent Savills have confirmed the move.

Large store vacancies have blighted UK malls and high streets in recent periods and this effect was accelerated last year by the closure of the giant BHS chain with most of its former stores stop empty.

Arcadia has been progressively closing down underperforming stores for each of its chains as it seeks to boost profitability from its remaining sites and make the most of its growing website businesses.

Liverpool’s Church Street is a key shopping thoroughfare in the city, along with adjacent Lord Street. But despite its prime position it too has suffered from empty stores as much as other, more run-down areas of the UK have. However,Lord Street’s empty BHS store is set to be filled soon with H&M reported to be the new tenant.
