Marc Jacobs releases short film for Fall 2017 campaign

Published

To promote his Fall 2017 collection, Marc Jacobs has released a short film. As with the collection, the video takes its inspiration from hip-hop and stars models such as Kiki Willems, Alek Wek and Cara Taylor.

Jacobs released his fall ad campaign earlier this month and on Thursday debuted a short film to accompany the print campaign. Directed by Jesse Jenkins, the video utilizes the song “Tomboy” by New York City-based rapper Princess Nokia. The short video shows a mix of established and upcoming models like Slick Woods, Kiki Willems, Alek Wek, Cara Taylor, Casil McArthur and Natalie Westling wearing clothes from the collection.

Jacobs’ Fall 2017 collection was shown at New York Fashion Week in February and inspired by the documentary Hip-Hop Evolution. Jacobs had come under intense criticism for his Spring 2017 collection, which was inspired by rave culture and featured a predominantly white cast of models wearing colorful dreadlocks.

In addition to traditional ad campaigns, more fashion labels have experimented with short videos released on YouTube and Instagram. In July, designer Brandon Maxwell created a video series as part of his fall campaign while activewear lines Puma and Reebok have also recently created videos starring supermodel spokespeople Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid, respectively.
