MEXICO CITY, July 14 (Reuters) - Mexican retailers group ANTAD (Asociación Nacional de Tiendas de Autoservicio y Departamentales) said its members' same-store sales fell in June, breaking a brief recovery in the previous two months, partially hurt by one weekend day less compared with the same period of 2008.

Same-store sales, or those recorded at outlets that have been open for at least 12 months, dropped 3.5 percent last month, the association said on Tuesday 14 July. Sales had risen 5.4 percent and 0.1 percent in April and May, respectively.

Supermarkets reported a 1.9 percent decline in same-store sales in June, showing customers are buying less staples, hurt by the economic slowdown.

ANTAD groups leading supermarket chains like Wal-Mart de Mexico (WALMEXV.MX), Soriana (SORIANAB.MX) and Comercial Mexicana (COMEUBC.MX) as well as department and specialty stores.
