Opening Ceremony to show at Disneyland

Published
Feb 14, 2018

As many labels seek alternatives to traditional Fashion Week runways, NYC-based Opening Ceremony announced this Wednesday that its Spring 2018 show will take place in a rather more original setting: Disneyland.

The brand announced the show through its Instagram account - Instagram: @openingceremony

The event will be hosted at the Anaheim, California Disneyland Resort on March 7, 2018 and will be the first fashion show at the park in 40 years.

Aside from a short teaser video uploaded to the brand’s Instagram account and accompanied by a post inviting followers to “stay tuned”, further details about the show are scarce at the moment.

Disney is no stranger to fashion, having teamed up with Coach to produce a Minnie Mouse-inspired collection that launched this January, the brands’ second collaboration following 2016’s sell-out Disney x Coach 1941 collection featuring Mickey Mouse. Other recent collaboration partners in the fashion and beauty sectors have included cosmetics brand Mally Beauty, luggage manufacturer Kipling, and Danish jewellers Pandora.

Opening Ceremony also has something of a record of innovation in its collection presentations, even as shifting industry trends have led an ever-increasing number of US brands to ditch New York Fashion Week in favor of a variety of alternative exhibition strategies. Last September, for example, the Lower East Side’s La Mama played host to the brand’s dance performance piece-cum-fashion show, Changers, while January 2017 saw the label collaborate with the New York City Ballet on another unconventional show.

The brand has promised to continue releasing information through social media as the Disneyland show approaches but, for now, the question on everyone’s lips seems to be whether Mickey and friends will be putting in an appearance – either incorporated as design elements on the garments, or strutting their stuff on the catwalk.

With no news on that front from Opening Ceremony, we'll just have to wait and see.
