Pitti Bimbo sees lower numbers

Published
Jan 29, 2015

The latest edition of the Florentine trade fair dedicated to the world of children, which took place from 22 to 24 January, welcomed some 10,000 visitors. Among them were 6,700 buyers, compared to 7,200 at the previous year's edition, or a drop of nearly 7%.

The Pitti Bimbo trade fair has recorded a decrease in buyers

Pitti Bimbo, which brings together 450 brands, first notes a drop in Italian buyers. This year there were 4,300 who came to shop the aisles, compared to 4,500 in 2014. This drop coincides with the decrease in consumership of childrenswear in the Italian market.

As for international buyers, this year there were 2,400, as opposed to the 2,700 from last year. A drop that can largely be attributed to the decline in Russian (-40%) and, to a lesser extent, Ukrainian buyers.

However, this drop was slightly balanced out by the increased presence of buyers from Turkey (+13%), Japan (+14%), Hong Kong (+45%) and especially the United Arab Emirates (+40%).

Nevertheless, France (5th in the ranking of buyers), the United States (13th) and South Korea (14th) remain, according to the organisers, Pitti Bimbo's three key markets.
