Pop culture-inspired apparel and accessories brand Female Trouble launches

Published
Sep 12, 2017

Female Trouble launched on Tuesday with a collection of tongue-in-cheek apparel, accessories and home goods. The brand is courtesy of Chelsea Fairless, the former fashion director of VFILES.

Instagram: Female Trouble

The new brand sells a mix of home accessories such as pillows and rugs, as well as clothing and accessories like tote bags, graphic dresses and necklaces. The majority of the items make pop culture references, such as a Showgirls pendant necklace or a Sylvia Plath-inspired ashtray. The name itself is in reference to John Waters’ 1974 film Female Trouble.

Prices for the collection range from $30 for the Mystery Woman tote to $320 for a made to order dress inspired by a famous Jean Seberg tabloid cover. The range also features artwork from the likes of Carly Jean Andrews and Jonny Negron. The collection is available exclusively on Female Trouble’s online shop.

“Perfection is basic and unrealistic,” Fairless says in a press release. “Female Trouble is about embracing your flaws, and then offsetting those flaws with decorative throw pillows.”

The brand’s founder Chelsea Fairless is a creative director and consultant based in Los Angeles. She is also the co-founder of the popular Instagram account, Every Outfit on Sex & the City.
