Ralph Lauren goes back to its roots with Stadium Collection

Published
Sep 24, 2017

Ralph Lauren is revisiting its archives with the launch of a limited-edition Polo Stadium capsule collection, celebrating the 25th anniversary of its original Polo Stadium line.

First launched in 1992 in celebration of the year's Summer Olympics, the collection was originally inspired by the uniforms of American athletes in the 1920s and 1930s, featured in a red, white and bleu colour way, complete with Polo "P-Wing" graphics.

For the comeback, the collection’s name was slightly tweaked - Stadium by Polo Ralph Lauren – and consists of 12 pieces including exact replicas, as well as reimagined styles.

From the 1992 collection, shoppers can find a cotton hoodie featuring the original Polo Stadium pattern and a multicoloured polo shirt, while new items include a lightweight jacket combining Stadium aesthetics with modern performance technology, as well as sweaters featuring a sportswear design and a navy and cobalt blue track jacket.

What’s more, the collection includes a range of accessories and caps featuring the original Polo Ralph Lauren logos.

The collection launch is in line with the company’s “Way Forward Plan”, announced in June 2016. Launched in order to strengthen Ralph Lauren’s business growth and profitability, the plan promised to refocus on the core of what has made Ralph Lauren the iconic company it is today.

Indeed, reaching into its archives is a great move for the brand to maintain its heritage as a classic, while the collection itself also plays in well with the '90s sportswear trend, which is currently very popular, especially among menswear.

The limited-edition Stadium by Polo Ralph Lauren collection will be available at select Polo Ralph Lauren stores worldwide as of this month. Some pieces will equally be available on Ralphlauren.com. Shoppers will have to act fast though as items are limited.
