The North Face launches recycled bottle apparel collection

Published
Apr 18, 2018

VF Corp's The North Face has launched a new sustainable line of t-shirts and tote bags called "Bottle Source," that uses fabrics made from recycled water bottles sourced from three US National Parks.

Men's Bottle Source cotton poly blend tee - The North Face

The Bottle Source line consists of brightly colored cotton poly blend tees with North Face branding for men, women and children. A multi-colored mushroom print adorns a limited edition tote bag, and the collection also pulls graphic inspiration from explorer John Muir and florals found in the parks.

"Bottle Source is a fitting next step in our materials innovation," said James Rogers, director of sustainability at The North Face in an official statement. The collection joins the brand's existing product lines using sustainable materials including recycled polyester, regenerative wool and ethical down.

To source the bottles, The North Face partnered with the National Park Foundation. 160,000 pounds of bottles were taken from recycling programs at Yosemite, Grand Teton and Great Smoky Mountain National Parks. In turn, The North Face is donating $1 of each sale back to the source parks.

"The North Face partnership inspires people to think about sustainability in a whole new way," said Katherine Chesson, VP of grants and programs at the National Park Foundation. She noted that the money will be used to facilitate further sustainability initiatives in the parks such as bear-proof recycling bins and reusable water bottle filling stations.

Kids t-shirts in the collection are priced at $25 with adult tees at $35. Tote bags are $40. Bottle Source is now available online and at The North Face stores.
