Bold oversized coats and cowboy boots to take over this fall

Published

According to two new insight reports from fashion and lifestyle aggregation platform Stylight, we can expect to see fashionistas take to the streets in oversized outerwear in a variety of bold colors this fall, not to mention the return of the cowboy boot.

Having analysed the purchasing behavior of the platform’s 12 million global users over the course of three months, Stylight’s A/W 2019 outerwear trends forecast identified a 400% increase in searches for oversized coats, jackets and blazers compared to the previous year, suggesting that the ongoing trend will continue to grow in popularity this fall.

The report also found that shoppers are looking to make bold color statements with their outerwear this season, with searches for pieces in pale yellow up a staggering 450%, while fuchsia also saw a 122.22% rise.

Searches for neon outerwear, similar to pieces seen in the A/W collections of brands including Balenciaga and Saint Laurent, also clocked up a respectable increase of 81.25% compared to last year, while searches for metallic coats and jackets were up 64.29%.

More traditional alternatives to classic black outerwear, such as beige, off-white, eggshell and sand, have also proved to be popular, with searches up 177.46%. Elsewhere, houndstooth, another outerwear perennial, which was seen on the runway at Chanel and Gucci this season, boasted a 200% increase in searches.

As temperatures drop, fashion shoppers are also on the lookout for the latest boot trends, and Stylight’s forecast for this segment has picked up on a 175% increase in clicks on cowboy boots this season.

Biker boots, on the other hand, have suffered from a 58.77% decrease in clicks, and have been accompanied in their fall from grace by Ugg boots, which, following their brief comeback in 2018, have seen a 70.43% decline in clicks this season.

The noughties staples have perhaps had their place in fashionistas’ hearts usurped by the similarly slouchy, Eskimo-inspired boots offered by Mou, which have seen an 88.13% increase in clicks.

Clicks on lace-up boots have also jumped up 91%, with pointy-toed models proving to be particularly popular, while last fall’s hit, the sock boot, is well and truly on its way out, with clicks on this kind of product falling 83%.

Founded in 2014, Stylight currently allows its users to compare the prices of over 27 million products from more than 1,250 online shops. The platform generated more than 470 million euros in sales in 2018.
