Charles Jeffrey Loverboy launches pre-spring collection for first time

Published
May 22, 2023

Following the recent decision for Charles Jeffrey Loverboy to move from two collections a year to four, the label has launched its first-ever pre-spring offer for 2024.

Charles Jeffrey Loverboy

The collection, dubbed Statant Passant Rampant, “reinterprets the colourful visual language of mediaeval Britain”.

The company said it’s “delving deeper into its perpetual fascination with sartorial history” and the PS24 collection’s name “reflects three key poses adopted by animals depicted in traditional heraldry, progressing from a standing position (statant), to walking (passant) and, finally, a triumphant hind-legged roar (rampant)”.

The reinterpretation of heraldic symbols comes via new illustrations by Charles Jeffrey that form a central motif.

Included are “mischievous unicorns, eagles and rampant lions” that jostle with traditional heraldic design elements such as diamonds and stripes, “creating a mesmeric collage of colour”.

These have been printed onto denim pieces such as jackets and jeans, as well as onto mini dresses, ‘guddle’ knits and accessories.

The brand mainstay — tartan — is also included in new etched denim styles, as well as being woven into plaid suits and mini kilts.

There are also “doodles of mediaeval tropes, including jesters, castles, swords and gargoyle-esque faces… sketched in Charles Jeffrey’s idiosyncratic style”.

As well as the overarching theme, the label said the collection is “a watershed moment” in its commitment to redefining tailoring thanks to the introduction of two new signature suiting styles.

These include a single-breasted slim-cut Glasgow suit with buckle detailing, and an oversized double-breasted Edinburgh suit.

And the mediaeval story continues into the accessories, with its new understated black leather shoulder bag featuring a buckle that resembles the roaring mouth of a mythical beast. It has also reworked its popular ears beanies with the seasonal theme.
