Christian Dior boutique ransacked by yellow vest protestors

Published
Nov 27, 2018

The boutique of Christian Dior on the Champs Elysées was one of many luxury stores ransacked during the riots this weekend in Paris.

Video footage has emerged on the Internet of a group of troublemakers breaking into the store on Saturday, when thousands protested on France’s most famous avenue against recent increases in government taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel. Some 30 boutiques suffered smashed windows and pillaging in the protest over the weekend, including stores on adjoining streets, such as Givenchy on rue François 1er.

Thousands of protestors, led by  the movement is known as the Gilets Jaunes, or Yellow Jackets, after the mandatory safety vests that all motorists in France must carry in their cars in case of accidents, marched Saturday in the center of Paris, building barricades and staging running battles with tear gas spraying paramilitary police, or CRS.

The video shows a gang of around 20 masked or helmeted thieves – many of them wearing Yellow Jackets – pillaging the Dior store located at 52 avenue des Champs Elysées, most of whose front windows are smashed.

The unknown individual filming the events on his mobile phone, comments in the video posted by Buzzinfo TV: “Non, non, non, Pourquoi? Ce n'est pas bien, meaning, “No, no, no. Why? That’s not right,” as male and female hooligans exited with armfuls of jewelry, scents and makeup.

In the wake of the attack, Dior has reportedly filed a lawsuit against unknown individuals. Damages are estimated to exceed one million euros.
