Co-founder of Adidas-owned Runtastic sport app to leave in December

In the last few years, sport apps have become a strategic tool for sport brands, and interest in them is growing as quickly as the importance of data and metric analysis. By tracking the habits, performances and behaviour of sport practitioners, brands are convinced they will increasingly be able to offer them the right product at the right time.

The co-founder and CEO of Runtastic is leaving the company - Runtastic

It was chiefly for these reasons that in 2015 Adidas bought fitness tracking app Runtastic for €220 million. The app is targeted to occasional and regular sport practitioners alike, it is available in 15 languages and capitalises on the interaction among friends, sport club members and social media contacts. Runtastic currently claims more than 130 million registered users.

Scott Zalaznik, formerly in charge of digital at Michael Kors, was hired with little fanfare last May to take charge of Adidas’s e-business, and is paying close attention to Runtastic. Now that Florian Gschwandtner, co-founder and CEO of Runtastic, has announced he will step down on December 31, Zalaznik has replaced him ad interim with Alfred Luger, Runtastic’s CFO, and Christian Kaar, the company’s CTO. While awaiting the arrival of a new CEO, the two executives will report to Scott Zalaznik.
