David Jones Wellington will open this July

David Jones Wellington is the first David Jones store to open outside Australia, "marking a significant moment in the department store’s 178-year history," said the Sydney-headquartered retailer, in a statement.

The Wellington store, opening at Lambton Quay, will feature the same contemporary design that debuted at Eastland, Melbourne last year and more recently at the new flagship store at Pacific Fair, Gold Coast.

David Jones Chief Operating Officer, David Thomas said the store build is in already in progress. Thomas emphasised the need to create inspiring spaces and dynamic visual merchandising to enhance the customer experience.

“We’re dedicated to delivering a world class department store in Wellington and are confident we will exceed expectations when we open in July," said Thomas.

"Customers can expect an exciting mix of local and international brands in a premium environment with a comprehensive range of services. We are bringing a truly special retail experience to this cosmopolitan city.”

The Wellington outlet will operate across three floors offering a mix of fashion, beauty, accessories and home. It plans to introduce a number of new brands to the New Zealand market including international beauty brands Tom Ford and Benefit.

David Jones was purchased by South Africa's Woolworths Holdings in 2014.
