Filippo Nishino has been named head of Caravel’s tannery

There has been a change at the top of Caravel. Filippo Nishino has been named managing director of the Tuscan tannery in Fucecchio, which specializes in the supply and tanning of precious hides, of which he was already president. The world leader for the treatment of reptile skins, the tannery was purchased in 2001 by the group Kering, which at the time was known as Gucci Group.

Filippo Nishino, the current industrial operations director at Kering, previously worked at Gucci. He has also worked for the investment company RP3 Prosperity and the auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. 

He succeeds Andrea Dolfi, who founded the prestigious tannery 26 years ago with his brother Alessandro, a very highly regarded expert in the world of hides and production manager at Caravel. The brothers, who each maintained a role in the company following its takeover by Kering in 2008, decided to leave after a disagreement with the luxury group, according to the local press. 

In nearly three decades, Caravel has become the leader in precious skins not only for Gucci, but also for other brands, such as Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Bulgari and Fendi. 

"Caravel is entering a new phase of development in order to select the best opportunities in an increasingly dynamic international competitive environment," the company said in a statement.
