Globe-Trotter launches digital customisation service with SmartPixels

Published
Oct 28, 2021

British luggage and accessories brand Globe-Trotter has linked up with two tech specialists to offer its customers a new online custom luggage service.

Globe-Trotter/SmartPixels

This gives them the option to choose the colour of every component of their suitcases – from case body, corners and straps to the finer details such as locks, buckles, interior lining and webbing belts.

It’s working with SmartPixels, a Paris-based start-up specialising in interactive 3D product configurators for e-commerce and retail, as well as Unity, a leading platform for creating and operating interactive, real-time 3D (RT3D) content.

The Globe-Trotter brand itself is better known for a timeless approach to its products as well as its ability to customise, so it’s certainly an interesting development as the brand combines advanced tech with the kind of personalisation options that seem to be part of another era.

It’s the firm’s first-ever online custom luggage service and comes after a period of multiple lockdowns in which luggage was the least likely item to be on consumer priority lists.

But with plenty of pent-up travel demand, it’s clearly a good time to launch the service.

It’s offering over 30 different shades to choose for the suitcase body, as well as 15 coloured leathers for the straps, handles and corners, with all the options adding up to “over a trillion possible configurations”.

The link-up with SmartPixels and its custom-made photorealistic 3D configurator has allowed Globe-Trotter to “showcase the possibilities of its custom luggage service, giving customers control of the design process with the ability to instantaneously visualise, interact (zoom, spin, 360° view), and navigate the countless possibilities of the offer”.

The finished designs are sent to Globe-Trotter’s workshop in Hertfordshire where each piece is made by hand and delivered within two-to-four weeks. The service is also available in its store.
