Halston and Halston Heritage trademarks acquired by Xcel Brands

Published
Feb 14, 2019

US-based media and consumer products company Xcel Brands announced on Wednesday that it has consolidated its ownership of American fashion brand Halston’s trademarks with the acquisition of the Halston and Halston Heritage labels.

The acquisition brings all of the Halston trademarks under Xcel's control - Instagram: @halston

Having previously acquired the H by Halston and H Halston trademarks and incorporated them into its television retail and department store businesses in December 2014, Xcel has now entered into a licensing agreement with Groupe JS International to produce and distribute sportswear and dresses under the Halston label and dresses under the Halston Heritage label.

Serving as the higher-end trademarks of the iconic American fashion brand of the 70s, Halston and Halston Heritage are currently sold at luxury retailers including Neiman Marcus, Saks and Bloomingdale’s.

“This acquisition gives us an opportunity to focus on the entirety of the Halston brand, the labels, and their design nuances while continuing to preserve the iconic American brand’s legacy,” explained Xcel chairman and CEO Robert W. D’Loren in a release. “We’re excited to fully unite the brand, embrace its heritage, and build the future of Halston under Xcel.”

Founded in 2011, Xcel also currently owns and manages the Isaac Mizrahi, Judith Ripka, C. Wonder, and Highline Collective brands, which it promotes and sells through a strategy combining direct-response television, brick-and-mortar retail and e-commerce.

“I’m looking forward to working with Xcel on their acquisition and we are excited at the opportunity to produce and sell a brand with such a rich history,” added Groupe JS International president and CEO Mitchel Hops. “I look forward to helping grow and evolve Halston while staying true to its roots. We have an incredible team of designers, merchandisers and salespeople, that along with our Groupe JS International team are ready to build on this great American designer brand.”

Based in Montreal, Canada and specialized in dresses, eveningwear and sportswear, Groupe JS International owns the Theia, Amur, Flor et.al, and JS Collections brands and holds licenses with Monique Lhullier, Carmen Marc Valvo Infusion and Kay Unger New York.
