Kering Eyewear buys 100% stake in Danish brand Lindberg

Kering Eyewear is buying Danish eyewear brand Lindberg. The French luxury giant’s eyewear division and the Lindberg family have signed an agreement through which Kering Eyewear will buy a 100% stake in the high-end Danish producer. The acquisition is subject to the relevant antitrust authorities’ approval, and is expected to be finalized in the second half of 2021.

Lindberg

Lindberg was founded in Denmark in 1969 as an optician by Poul-Jørn Lindberg, and has become a multinational corporation thanks to Poul-Jørn's son Henrik. It currently has over 750 employees in more than 100 countries. Lindberg is renowned for its titanium frames featuring sophisticated design and innovative technology. Its hypo-allergenic, screwless models are customisable by combining a wide range of colours and materials, such as titanium, acetate, wood and precious metals, and have earned Lindberg no less than 106 prestigious design awards.

“I have the highest respect and admiration for what Henrik Lindberg and his family have built over the past 35 years. Lindberg is synonymous with luxury eyewear and it will come as the perfect complement to Kering Eyewear’s portfolio,” said Roberto Vedovotto, president and CEO of Kering Eyewear.

“Kering and Lindberg share the common philosophy that design is ultimately about taking eyewear to an even higher level. That is why the Lindberg family are extremely happy to be able to hand over the baton to Kering Eyewear. Under Roberto Vedovotto’s leadership and backed by the impressive values and high standards of the Kering Group, I am convinced that Lindberg will be taken to new heights while preserving its DNA,” said Henrik Lindberg, founder and CEO of Lindberg.

The acquisition is a further step in the expansion of Kering Eyewear, which in just a few years has become one of the main players in the eyewear sector, generating a wholesale revenue in 2019 of approximately €600 million. Kering Eyewear’s portfolio includes 15 brands: Gucci, Cartier, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Chloé, Alexander McQueen, Montblanc, Brioni, Dunhill, Boucheron, Pomellato, Alaïa, McQ and Puma.
