Lululemon sues for trademark infringement in US Federal court

Published

Lululemon filed a lawsuit in US federal court in Chicago against alleged counterfeiters in China and abroad. The lawsuit alleges groups and individuals are selling knockoff product online through unauthorized websites.

Vancouver, BC-based Lululemon filed the lawsuit in federal court on Monday. In it, the brand alleged both individuals and affiliated networks of their businesses are selling fake Lululemon product including hats, yoga mats and shirts on misleading websites.

This is not the first time Lululemon has run into this problem, and it is not the first time it has filed a lawsuit on the same premise. In 2017 the company sued entities operating sites that used the Lululemon trademark in combination with words like "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday."

Websites that were shut down include "lululemonblackfridaysales.us.com" and "cybermondaylululemon.us.com." The company also initiated court proceedings in 2016, seeking to shut down fraudulent sites that included Ebay and Alibaba-owned pages.

The latest case was filed by Lululemon in Illinois Northern Court on Monday. The lawsuit was filed the same day that Laurent Potdevin, former Lululemon CEO, stepped down amidst controversy over his behavior.
