Marie Claire UK to change hands

Published

TI Media, the UK-based owner of Marie Claire UK, has received a takeover offer worth £140 million from Future, the global platform for specialist media.

Future has confirmed the offer, also saying its SEO and tech expertise can help scale the company's titles digitally and internationally.

TI Media’s portfolio comprises more than 220 titles, with popular print magazines including Decanter, Wallpaper, Country Life and Marie Claire UK. It also has a strong digital presence, led by Marieclaire.co.uk, which will become the brand’s only destination after the November print issue.

Commenting on the proposed acquisition, Future CEO Zillah Byng-Thorne said: “TI Media’s long-established market leading brands, industry events and quality content are an exceptional fit with our business and our strategy.

“In addition, the largely UK-focused, print-led nature of the TI Media portfolio offers a multiplicity of opportunities to leverage our proprietary technology stack and operating model to develop new digital monetisation models and geographic expansion.”

The move comes as Marie Claire UK continues its transition into a digital-only title. The fashion magazine announced in September that its November issue will be the last, becoming the only publication in Marie Claire’s universe to only have an online version.

Marieclaire.co.uk, which had 1.8 million unique users a month in June 2019, is also undergoing a bit of a change, shifting its focus from purely content to include shoppable features under the revamped version of Marie Claire Edit, its fashion editor-approved shopping site.
