Mary Katrantzou opens pop-up in Selfridges

Published
Nov 27, 2017

High-end print specialist Mary Katrantzou has opened a pop-up store in the Selfridges flagship on Oxford Street in London. It will stay open during the key Christmas shopping and clearance sale period when foot traffic to the store from both local and international shoppers surges.

Katrantzou's prints are the star feature of the pop-up

The pop-up, which closes in February, is an unmissable island of colour in the upscale department store’s women’s designer area with the look and feel inspired by a recent exhibition in which Katrantzou participated with some of her pieces.

It was inspired by the Creatures & Creations exhibit that closed only last month at Waddesdon in Buckinghamshire. That show brought together beautiful artworks of animals and creative crafts based on these.

The pop-up was put together by FormRoom from a concept designed by Studiofibre.

It includes a striking made-to-order wire-framed ‘birdcage’ holding a single mannequin surrounded by stylised flowers and handcrafted birds. Each one of these is unique and they are crafted in a variety of poses, some of them in flight.

The pop-up also includes plinths in faux marble with the mannequins on them looking like statues in a fantasy garden.
And to further emphasise the connection to Kantrantzou as a major print influencer, there are also fabric fall panels featuring her signature peacock fabric.

Katrantzou has built a strong business in recent years based on the power of her unique prints and architectural silhouettes.
