Matchesfashion names new COO from Amazon

Published
Sep 15, 2020

Matchesfashion has announced two major changes to its leadership team with the appointment of a new chief operating officer and a finance chief.

Matchesfashion

The omnichannel luxury retailer has named Jason Weston as COO. An interesting appointment given that he joins from Amazon where he was in a number of leadership roles across a 15-year period. In his most recent post he was director of special projects for Europe and before this he was at Prime Now, the company’s loyalty/fast delivery service.

Coming in the same week as Amazon announced a link-up with the British Fashion Council for a designer storefront, it underlines how strong Amazon is becoming in fashion and how executives with deep experience at the company are highly valued across the wider fashion sector and especially in luxury.

Earlier this year, Matchesfashion headhunted Ajay Kavan from Amazon to be its new CEO.

Weston replaces Tom Athron who has decided to leave the retailer.

Meanwhile, Sean Glithero is the firm’s new finance chief. Joining this month, he doesn't have fashion experience but was at the wildly successful car sales business Auto Trader Group, where he held several senior finance positions. Most recently, he was finance chief of Funding Circle.

Ajay Kavan said the new execs “each bring deep expertise in building and scaling online businesses that are customer-focused and innovative”.

That comment underlines how much the future of Matchesfashion is online, even though the company still runs physical shops.
