Perfect Corp unveils 'Beauty 3.0' at CES 2019, teams up with Ulta Beauty and Cosmopolitan

Beauty app developer Perfect Corp. is doubling down on innovative digital beauty solutions with a new concept called ‘Beauty 3.0'.

The developer behind the virtual beauty app YouCam Makeup has unveiled the new concept -- which aims to transform the beauty shopping experience with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) solutions -- at the Consumer Electronics Conference (CES) in Las Vegas.

Beauty 3.0's features include new concepts that allow shopperss to virtually explore and test out products, such as an ‘AI Smart Shade Finder' that gives users recommended foundation shades and an ‘AI Skin Diagnostic' that tracks dermatological concerns over time.

"Through artificial intelligence and advanced deep learning capabilities, we are able to create smarter, more efficient, virtual experiences garnered to each individual shopper and user," explained Perfect Corp. founder Alice Chang.

To put the concept into practice, YouCam is teaming up with the cosmetics retail giant Ulta Beauty; a partnership that will see the retailer integrate the developers AI and AR solutions into its stores to better engage with shoppers.

"Our partnership with YouCam will give us insight about how augmented reality experiences can complement the services we offer in Ulta Beauty stores," said Prama Bhatt, Ulta Beauty's SVP Digital and eCommerce. "This represents a nice merging of physical, digital and emotional experiences -- especially the ability for a guest to virtually try-on hair color, with an Ulta Beauty stylist, as part of their in-store salon service."

YouCam is also working with the magazine Cosmopolitan, with the publication's Editor-in-Chief Jessica Pels explaining: "My goal is to deepen the connection between Cosmo and its readers by constantly making our content more responsive to what they're craving right now. "Because of who our audience is -- millennials holding the magazine in one hand and their phone in the other -- that means bringing interactivity to our pages through projects like our partnership with YouCam, which brings a virtual try-on experience right into our pages."

The development is the latest major move for YouCam, which has had a big year after teaming up with Eyelure on a virtual false lash experience in the spring, and bringing New York Fashion Week to the masses back in September via a runway collaboration with Flying Solo NYC.
