Philipp Plein launches first fragrance

Published
Dec 5, 2019

Philipp Plein is expanding into perfumes. The German designer has launched his first ever fragrance, The $kull, in collaboration with Brands Beyond Beauty. The perfume and cosmetics specialist was founded in Geneva by Patrizio Sella three years ago and also produces fragrances for Chopard

Philipp Plein with perfumer Alberto Morillas - DR

Unveiled in New York on Tuesday, the bottle of Philipp Plein's first olfactory creation is decorated with a skull design, the luxury house's signature symbol. The fragrance was conceived for the brand by master perfumer Alberto Morillas, with the idea of creating a "luxurious and sexy olfactive tattoo" through "spicy, woody-leathery and animal accents." It features " a trail of black pepper, cardamom and flamboyant watery notes, boosted with the richness of dark woods and leather, and 'pleined' with the luscious scent of Bourbon vanilla and black amber notes."

The eau de parfum will initially be sold for 350 euros in an exclusive preview edition called The $kull Art Edition, and will be available in select Philipp Plein stores, as well as on the brand's e-commerce platforms in Europe and the U.S. The fragrance will be rolled out globally in January, at which point it will also be available in a range of department stores. The brand plans to release its first men's fragrance at the end of January.

"My first perfume creation is completely different from anything that already exists in the industry and from now on that industry will never be the same again," said Plein in a press release, explaining that he had "just wanted to wait for the right moment and the right partners" before expanding into the fragrance segment.

His namesake fashion brand, which boasts 250 boutiques around the world, brings in more than 250 million euros in annual revenues through its three apparel and accessories lines: Philipp Plein, Plein Sport and Billionaire.
