Feb 14 - Sportswear maker and retailer Under Armor Inc is in talks with college football star Cam Newton for a product endorsement deal.

Under Armor would offer Newton, a former Auburn University quarterback and a Heisman Trophy winner, the largest endorsement contract ever given to an incoming National Football recruit, CNBC reported, citing sources.

An Under Armor spokeswoman confirmed the talks, but declined to comment further, saying the company does not speak publicly about ongoing negotiations.

The College Park, Georgia, native is expected to be a top choice at the NFL draft in late April.

Under Armor, which makes products touted for pulling sweat away from the body, raised its 2011 revenue forecast last month, citing strong sales in stores and online. Its shares hit a 52-week high of $69.97 last week.

The stock was down 0.4 percent at $69.55 in afternoon trading.
