Uniqlo set to open first Montreal flagship in 2020

Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo is set to bring its affordable basics to the Quebec market by late 2020, the company announced this week.

The flagship store will open at the Montreal Eaton Centre on Ste-Catherine Street West in downtown Montreal and is expected to be the first of several in the province.

"Since our first store opening in Canada in fall 2016, we have had our eyes set on Montreal and we are pleased and excited to answer our customers’ many demands for a store in la belle province,” said Yuichiro Kaneko, CEO of Uniqlo Canada.

"We look forward to introducing Uniqlo and our high quality, affordable and thoughtfully created LifeWear apparel to Montrealers and Quebecers alike and welcoming them to our new store, a testimony to dynamic redevelopment of Montreal’s downtown core with the opening of the store at Centre Eaton de Montreal, in late 2020."

The retailer entered the Canadian market with the opening of its first store in Toronto at CF Toronto Eaton Centre in September 2016. It later opened its first store in British-Columbia the following year, in October 2017.

This fall, it opened its first store outside of Toronto and Vancouver, in Edmonton, Alberta, kickstarting the brand’s national expansion and taking the brand truly nationwide.

Currently, it operates 13 stores in Canada including eight in the greater Toronto area, one in Edmonton at West Edmonton Mall, and an additional four in the Greater Vancouver Area.

More details regarding the new store in Montreal will be announced at a later date.

Since opening its first store in Japan in 1984, Uniqlo has launched over 2,000 stores in 22 markets worldwide including China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and more.

Earlier this month, Uniqlo owner Fast Retailing Co reported record profit for a third consecutive year on strong sales at its Uniqlo stores in China.
