Walmart launches new virtual try-on experience

Walmart announced on Thursday the introduction of a new innovative shopping experience that helps customers discover their assortment and to shop with confidence.

Dubbed 'Be Your Own Model', the technology brings the in-store fitting room experience to online shoppers by allowing customers to use their own photo to better visualize how clothing will look on them.

While other experiences typically lay a photo of an item on top of another image, making it appear computer-generated, Be Your Own Model, promises to show customers an ultra-realistic simulation with shadows, fabric draping and where clothing falls on their figure in seconds. To use the feature, customers simply need to click the 'Try It On' button on the item page and will have the option to view clothing on themselves.

The feature is now available on more than 270,000 items across Walmart’s portfolio of exclusive brands and private brands, including Free Assembly, Scoop, Sofia Jeans and Sofia Active by Sofia Vergara, Love & Sports, Terra & Sky, and more. Likewise, select items from some of its national brands like Champion, Levi’s and Hanes, and even some items on the Walmart Marketplace, are also part of the new experience.

The launch follows the acquisition and implementation of the Zeekit virtual try-on platform. Earlier this year, it introduced the first implementation of the technology 'Choose My Model', which was met with terrific customer response.

“We believe the largest and closest store to our customers is the one in their pockets. With both virtual try-on experiences now live, Walmart continues to offer customers an unparalleled experience that makes it easier to shop for clothes online,” the company said in a news statement.
