Walmart has announced the launch of a premium outdoor destination curated by Moosejaw on its website, the first storefront to be opened on the multinational retailer’s e-commerce platform by an acquired brand.

The digital store aims to complement the camping assortment already available on Walmart’s website and will offer a wide selection of items from outdoor brands including Craghoppers, Deuter, Jack Wolfskin and Stonewear, as well as the full range of Moosejaw apparel and gear.

Most of the available assortment will be fulfilled by Moosejaw but the brand also plans to pull products from other specialty outdoor retailers as it expands the digital store’s offering.

Walmart acquired Moosejaw for $51 million in February of last year as part of a strategy to up its competitivity on the US e-commerce market. Having access to Walmart’s formidable infrastructure has allowed Moosejaw to expand rapidly and offer its customers a range of new services including free two-day shipping on orders over $49 and an improved rewards program.

The digital-first outdoor retailer has also been collaborating with Walmart’s technology incubator, Store No 8, exploring how virtual reality might be applied to improve customer experience in the outdoor sector.

In a release, Eoin Comerford, Walmart’s general manager of outdoor and CEO of Moosejaw, said that it was “kind of an honor” that the digital store would be the first of its kind to open on Walmart’s  flagship website, claiming that the move is “a good example of how Walmart is expanding its assortment online by introducing entirely new categories and brands, all while introducing Moosejaw to new shoppers.”

The Premium Outdoor Store curated by Moosejaw is now live on Walmart’s e-commerce website.
