Eva Cardenas is stepping down as director of Inditex’s Zara Home, a role she has held since the homeware brand’s creation in 2003, for personal reasons. Lorena Mosquera, who has spent 16 years at the Spanish retail group, has been named to take over the position.

After graduating in Economics and cutting her teeth at L’Oréal, Zara Cardenas was appointed as director of Zara Home at 38, becoming the second female leader at the helm of an Inditex brand after Carmen Sevillano (at Oysho). Under her leadership, the chain has expanded to 75 markets, making €830 million in sales in 2017.

Inditex CEO Pablo Isla expressed his gratitude to the outgoing director. “Although I regret that Eva is leaving the helm of Zara Home, I respect her decision. We would like to thank her for all her achievements, dedication and creative talent, which has helped position Zara Home at a very high level of prestige and international expansion, contributing to the continuity and success of the project,” he said regarding her 15-year tenure.

The brand will now enter an “exciting” new chapter under the leadership of Lorena Mosquera. A law graduate, Mosquera joined Inditex in 2002 and held a variety of roles in several departments at the Spanish group, including head of the accessories division at Zara. In 2014, she assumed the direction of Zara Woman’s knitwear.

“She is the ideal person to lead Zara Home because of her knowledge of the product, her values and experience in the management of the company,” Isla said.

She takes up her new role as the retail group embarks on a wide-ranging digital transformation that will see all brands become available online anywhere in the world by 2020. As part of this, Mosquera will be responsible for ensuring the integration of the brand’s digital and physical channels, as well as driving international growth. Currently, Zara Home has 590 stores and operates in 75 markets, including 37 online markets.

Founded in 2003, the company reported revenues of €830 million euros last year, up 7% from the previous year. Meanwhile, Inditex saw a 9% increase in revenue to €25.33 billion.
